Fans of Deadpool,Portugal the foul-mouthed, ultra-violent comic book film starring the very, very handsome and irreverent Ryan Reynolds, let out a mournful grumble on Tuesday morning as the movie, despite all its accolades, failed to receive a Best Picture nomination for this year's Academy Awards.

But, as Mashable's Entertainment Editor Josh Dickey pointed out a few weeks ago, it's racked up a lot of other award nominations that made a Best Picture nomination seem entirely plausible.
A Golden Globe nomination for Best Musical or Comedy
A Writer's Guild of America nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay
A Director's Guild nomination for Outstanding Directorial Achievement of a First-Time Feature Filmmaker
A Producer's Guild nomination for Best Picture
Then, there was the film's bonafide, though tongue-in-cheek, campaign video, going straight for the jugularOscar votes.
And, hey, we know Oscar voters tend to like at least one big box office film and Deadpool, garnering $363 million in the U.S. alone and crossing the $783 million mark when you count foreign box office, more that fit the bill.
But let's be honest: The fact that it didn't get a nomination is totally okay. The Academy is not exactly known for venturing outside the box with its Best Picture picks. Last year's surprise nomination for Mad Max: Fury Roadand District 9a few years ago were anomalies likely born out of expanding the field to up to 10 movies.
And if we're honest, it's no surprise the Academy wasn't going to break precedence here for a film as violent and foul-mouthed as Deadpool. Sure, they've nominated films like Django Unchained, but Deadpoolis a COMIC BOOK MOVIE. Can you imagine the horror experienced by some of the voting members at learning people might expect them to nominate an R-RATEDCOMIC BOOK MOVIE?

No, this is the same Academy that picked Shakespeare in Loveover Saving Private Ryan, Chicagoover Gangs of New York, Forest Gumpover Pulp Fiction, and Crashover literally any other movie.
As for the aforementioned handsome Reynolds, who is probably just thrilled to finally be out of the Green Lantern's glow, he's taking it all in stride.

Besides, Deadpool 2is still a go and there's a lot of teasing going on, including an image that many took to mean that not only might Hugh Jackman's Wolverine be making a cameo in the film, but that the one and only Pierce Brosnan may be tapped to play Deadpool's frenemy Cable.
