What would Game of Thronesbe without a little post-show dissection of obscure details?Green Bones (2024) In Season 7 episode 2, "Stormborn," those details are all in written form -- scrolls, texts and other communication between living characters (hopefully) or the books that guide them.

Let's start with the meatiest image HBO released: the letter Ser Jorah Mormont was writing to Daenerys Targaryen when Sam Tarly came to see him.

The somber letter is full of the defeatism that seized Jorah the day he got greyscale. We know he loves Daenerys, and that he always has and will, but the fact that he's still rooting for her and doesn't expect he'll live to see her rule is heartbreaking.

Khaleesi,

I came to the Citadel in the last hope that the maesters could treat me, as you ordered. Even with all their arts, I am beyond any cure but the grave. I have had a longer life than I deserved, and I only wish I could've lived to see the world you're going to build, standing by your side. I have loved you since the moment I met you.

As we know, Jorah's storyline didn't end there in "Stormborn;" he got a visit from the baddest maester-in-training around, Sam Tarly, who arrived bearing a heavy book that he believes contains the cure to greyscale.

Sam wrote a scroll to Jon in the previous episode, "Dragonstone," the full contents of which we can now read:

The letter reads: "Jon. This is a map I found in a book. Dragonglass is rare in Westeros, but there is a mine on Dragonstone. This might be the only source left in Westeros. Sam."

Jon is a popular scrolls recipient -- he also received one from Daenerys via Tyrion, summoning him to Dragonstone:
